Whatever tragic story happened to you, does NOT define you. \u00a0What you do with that story, does.<\/h5>\n
When my amniotic fluid embolism<\/a> hit, my cousin Sari said “When you are ready to talk about the story, I can call a friend at the local Chicago CBS station and see if they would help you tell your story.” \u00a0Who knew if they would take the story and if they did, who knew if anyone would care?<\/h5>\n
What was important was I was drumming up the courage to talk about the story for a couple of reasons. \u00a0One, I needed to release some of the painful emotions surrounding what had happened and felt talking about it would help make sense of it. \u00a0And two, \u00a0there wasn’t a story for me to refer to when I was going through my ordeal, so if\u00a0another woman was in my position, she could hear the story<\/a> and maybe it could help save her life.<\/h5>\n
\"\"<\/h5>\n
Since then, I have told the story hundreds of times, spoken in front of hospital staff, medical conferences, universities and live television audiences<\/a>. \u00a0Not to mention, writing a book<\/a> giving more details than I originally thought I would give.<\/h5>\n
Was it painful? YES.<\/h5>\n
Was it ultimately a form of healing for me? YES.<\/h5>\n
Has our story helped others? YES.<\/h5>\n
\"\"<\/h5>\n
You might never know the reason why you went through the ordeal you experienced, but I promise, this is not where your story ends. \u00a0There are lessons for you to learn. And don’t forget, there are lessons for others to learn without needing to walk in your shoes in order to understand them.<\/h5>\n
You can take your tragedy, no matter the circumstances, and turn it into triumph. \u00a0Every single day, bad things happen to good people.<\/strong> Take what you have been given (a second chance, a lucky break, a not as tragic as the other stories you have read) and when you have the strength, start a blog, join a support group, start a YouTube channel, SHARE your knowledge. \u00a0Because you are an expert in all things happening to YOU.<\/h5>\n
Again, you have no idea if anyone will care until you do it. \u00a0If you go into your “storytelling” with zero expectations, except wanting to free yourself from your pain, you might be surprised at just how many people might be listening.<\/h5>\n
