AFE Awareness Day is March 27

The first time I heard the words “Amniotic Fluid Embolism” was at my son’s bris. I just came off of life support the day before and was starting to become coherent enough to understand what it was that happened to me and the likelihood of surviving it.

Today, March 27th is AFE Awareness day. I want to thank every one of the doctors, health care workers, friends, family, and my husband for saving my life. Miranda Klassen has created the AFE foundation because unfortunately, she  experienced her own AFE, but fortunately for the world, she is one strong woman and this foundation wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for her. She has found her calling. She is helping to ease the pain of others who have suffered from this horrible disease and she is there for those families in desperate times of need. Thank you Miranda for surviving and being there for all of us.

On this AFE Awareness Day, I hope all who survived will reflect on their own lives and all the lives that theirs affected.  I know in my case, I thank G-d every day that I am in a position to speak about my story and educate as many people as I can about this catastrophic condition.
